September 15, 2000. Patterns within patterns, a thought I have been having. Is there a pattern inside of a pattern, let's come up with an example. When I go to bed, I first smoke a good night cigarette, followed by brushing my teeth, I then take out my contacts, give myself a shot for my diabetes, and sit down by my computer to do any follow-up emails. In this pattern of my everyday life is there a hidden pattern? Maybe if we search deeper. When I take out my contacts I take both of them out at the same times. I use my index finger and my thumb to squeeze them out of their place. Then I place them concurrently into their cells. I then fill the cell with liquid, right then left, closing the cells, right then left. Do I ever do left then right? No. Always right then left. Does this make me compulsive, no, it just makes what I do a habit and a pattern. I would also bet that if I would do switch around my pattern; I would get a uncomfortable feeling. This leads me to a question, which I will discuss tomorrow. Do we develop patterns because it creates a comfortable feeling about the situation we are faced with?
